The fcso externship program

The FCSO Externship is an unpaid program which provides college students with first-hand experience, working with our Community Outreach & Engagement Unit under the Community Response Bureau. To participate of this program you do not need a background in Law-enforcement; just a passion to learn about our mission and contribute your perspective. We are looking for individuals that bring something unique to our unit. As part of our externship program you will have the opportunity to develop initiatives in collaboration with our Community Outreach & Engagement Unit that can be implemented in our community.

Externship opportunities are offered during spring, summer, and fall semesters and it includes opportunities to learn about:

  • Training Academy
  • Patrol Bureau
  • Corrections/Professional services

Our Externship Program also includes the following:

  • Ride-along through our Patrol Bureau
  • Tour of our correction facilities
  • Meet & Greet with our Therapy K-9 Unit
  • Tour of our Training Academy
  • C.R.A.S.E.

Eligible students must meet the following minimum requirements: 

  • Pass the FCSO background check
  • Be a college student
  • Have a valid driver’s license and transportation
  • 80 hours completed over course of 12 weeks

Interview Process: May 18-19
Orientation: May 21
Externship: May 26- August 14

Application Deadline: July 22
Interview Process: August 3-4
Orientation: August 6
Externship: August 17- November 6
