Selection Process

To qualify for the position of Deputy, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, eighteen years of age at the time of application, possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and be able to speak, read and write the English language. Before becoming a Deputy, a person must complete the following steps in the testing/selection process:

Step 1

The first step in the selection process is to file an application to take the pre-employment examination. To fill out an application and schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select "Corrections Jobs" and sign up for the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. The written test is conducted to determine if the applicant is capable of acquiring the skills necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Deputy Sheriff.

Step 2

Applicants who pass the pre-employment examination will be invited to fill out an application with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. Applicants will then be scheduled to take a physical abilities test (PAT). After successful completion of the PAT, progression through the remaining steps will be only as office staffing needs dictate.

Step 3

A background investigation is conducted. Photographs and fingerprints are taken and waivers must be signed in order that a thorough investigation can be conducted. Background removal standards are included here.

Step 4

Applicants are interviewed to address issues of suitability for the position.

Step 5

A polygraph examination is given to verify history and information provided.

Step 6

All information submitted and gathered will be reviewed to determine that the job requirements can be met. A conditional offer of employment may be made after this review.

Step 7

A physical examination is conducted to evaluate the applicant's fitness for duty. Applicants must also pass a psychological evaluation at this time. After this step, a formal offer of appointment may be extended. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

What to expect at the www.nationaltestingnetwork.com website:

Upon completion of the entry level exam, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office Human Resources. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be invited to fill out an employment application with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office to continue to participate in other stages of the selection process.

National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the Franklin County Sheriff's Office's responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to Franklin County Sheriff's Office where the final decisions are made.
