Professional Development Initiative

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Professional Development Initiative is committed to investing in the growth, leadership, and long-term success of our personnel. Through structured mentorship, leadership training, and continuing development opportunities, the initiative supports employees at every stage of their careers while helping strengthen the future of the organization.

A primary responsibility of the Professional Development Unit is overseeing the Office’s Supervisor Mentorship Program. This program pairs newly promoted supervisors, including both professional and uniformed staff, with experienced and established mentors throughout the Sheriff’s Office. These mentor relationships are designed to provide guidance, encouragement, and practical leadership support during the transition into supervisory roles. Mentors serve as trusted sounding boards who assist new supervisors with professional decision-making, leadership development, organizational culture, and the day-to-day challenges of leading others.

In addition to coordinating the mentorship program, the Professional Development Unit works to create meaningful training and development opportunities for all personnel. With a strong emphasis on leadership development, the section seeks to promote continuous learning, professional growth, accountability, communication, and organizational excellence. By investing in people and fostering strong leaders, the initiative helps ensure the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office remains prepared to meet the evolving needs of both its employees and the community it serves.
