FCSO Releases Body-Worn Camera Footage of Suspect Shooting Mifflin Township Police Officers

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has released Body-Worn Camera footage showing the moment a suspect opened fire on two Mifflin Township Police Officers on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The officers had initiated a traffic stop around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of Mecca Drive and Perdue Avenue. The passenger in the car fled the scene. When officers pursued the suspect, he turned around and opened fire, hitting both officers.

Those officers were both taken to Grant Medical Center, one in critical condition. As of Thursday afternoon, that officer remains in critical condition. The other officer is expected to be discharged today.

The suspect, Daveonte Dixon, remains at large, and investigators believe he is armed and dangerous. FCSO is asking the community to remain vigilant, and if you see Dixon, call 911 and do not approach him. Charges have been filed against Dixon for 1 count of attempted murder and 2 counts of felonious assault.

The driver of the car has cooperated with investigators. At this time, he is not facing any charges.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, with support from other agencies, including the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Sheriff Dallas Baldwin wants to thank all of the agencies that responded to the call and those that remain on alert, searching for the suspect.

“The focus remains on the recovery of the injured officers, as well as bringing this suspect to justice.” Sheriff Baldwin said. “We also want to thank the community for their outpouring of support after this brutal attack.”

There will be extra Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Mifflin Township, and other agencies, like Clinton Township Police, helping cover calls in the area.
