Sheriff Dallas Baldwin states that the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal injury traffic crash that occurred at approximately 10:07 am on 06/27/26. A white 2019 BMW X3 A3 was southbound on IR 270 approaching SR161 at a high rate of speed. The BMW lost control and slid off the west side of the roadway, striking the wall and concrete sign support. The vehicle then rolled and came to rest on its side/roof on the west edge of the berm of IR 270. Deputies from Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and fire and medics from City of Westerville responded to the scene. The driver and only occupant of the BMW was transported in critical condition to Mount Carmel East Hospital. The driver of the BMW was pronounced deceased by Mount Carmel Hospital staff at 10:41 am.
Crews are on scene at this time clearing the vehicle to open the freeway.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
