Sheriff Dallas Baldwin states that the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal injury traffic crash that occurred at approximately 5:50 pm on 10/01/26. A grey 2024 Freightliner tractor with trailer was stopped on the side of the US 23 south entrance ramp from IR 270 east. A white 2018 Chevrolet utility truck was heading south on the same ramp and appears to have went off the road and traveled through the ditch, eventually striking the trailer being towed by the Freightliner. Deputies from Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, troopers from Ohio State Highway Patrol, Columbus Police and medics from Columbus Fire Department responded to the scene. The driver and only occupant of the Freightliner was uninjured. The driver and only occupant of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased by CFD medics on scene at 6:06 pm.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
