EOW Sheriff's Canine "Riddick"

Monday, October 21, 2019

It is with great sadness that we share; following 5 years of exemplary service to his handler, fellow deputies, Central Ohio law enforcement agencies, and the citizens of Franklin County, canine Riddick died this morning surrounded by his handler, family and co-workers.

Over the last three days, Riddick had suffered from complications related to a sudden diagnosis of cancer in and around his heart.  We would like to thank the staff of MedVet for all of their hard work over the last few days to try and save Riddick.  Unfortunately, he had a very aggressive form of cancer that would not have benefited from further treatment.

Riddick was an 8 year old Belgian Malinois, trained as a dual purpose Sheriff’s Canine assigned to patrol and specialized in narcotics detection.  He started with his handler, Dep. McCoy, in 2014. Over the years Riddick aided Deputies in finding large amounts of illegal narcotics, as well as assisting in the capture of multiple criminals.

He will be missed by his handler, Deputy McCoy and our entire FCSO family.
