As part of the Franklin County Fair’s Opening Ceremony, Sheriff Dallas Baldwin administered the oath to five of The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Crisis K9s on Monday, July 14.
Lucy, Luna, Mando, Scooby, and Titus raised their right paws, with a little help from their handlers, to officially swear in for duty. These five pups became fully certified Crisis K9s earlier this year, trained to provide comfort to people experiencing mental, physical, or psychological effects of trauma.
These five pups, along with Crisis K9 Sunny, make up the FCSO’s Crisis K9 Unit, which is the largest Therapy K9 unit in the United States. They respond to emergencies across Franklin County, as well as all around Ohio and the U.S.
This ceremony was a celebration of the hard work the pups and their handlers have put into training. That training never stops, as the Crisis K9 Unit constantly works to get better and to make sure they are always ready to respond in any crisis.
