The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office does not provide public parking. Parking is the sole responsibility of the customer and is available at the Commons Garage (directly across the street), or at the many meters and paid lots surrounding the building.

How to Apply

To qualify for a CCW in Ohio, you must:

 • Be at least 21 years of age.

• Live in Franklin County or any adjacent county (Franklin, Delaware, Union, Madison, Fairfield, Pickaway, or Licking).

• Obtain a certificate of training issued by a certified firearms instructor within the last three years.

NEW APPLICANTS

To obtain a Concealed Carry Weapons Permit (CCW) permit, first-time applicants must:

• Make an appointment with the concealed carry office, using the link above. You must book the appropriate appointment. A CCW service will not be completed if you have booked a Fingerprint or WebCheck appointment. We do not accept mailed-in applications.
• Fill out an application completely, print it, and bring it with you.
• Provide a color photo, passport size (2"x2"), taken within 30 days.
• Bring valid government identification, driver's license, state I.D., or passport.
• Submit to having your fingerprints electronically scanned or inked and pass a criminal background check.
• Have an original Certificate of Competency or Prior Equivalent Documentation.
• If using Military or OPOTA training, please provide a copy of DD214 or OPOTA certificate, respectively.

RENEWALS

If you are a Franklin County Renewal, you must:

• Make an appointment with the concealed carry office, using the link above. We do not accept mailed-in applications.
• Fill out an application completely, print it, and bring it with you.

• Bring your current CCW Permit. If lost or stolen, you must provide a copy of a police report from your local law enforcement agency. The report must specifically state the “CCW Permit” is lost or stolen (cannot make general reference to “a wallet”).
• Bring valid government identification, driver's license, state I.D., or passport.

If you are a renewal from another county in Ohio, in addition to the Franklin County Renewal List, you will need a 2x2 photo for the application.

FEES

Fees are non-refundable and can be paid as EXACT cash, Cashier's check, or money order made payable to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

NEW APPLICANTS

• $67 – Ohio resident for 5 or more consecutive years
• $77 - Ohio resident less than 5 consecutive years

RENEWALS

• $50 – Ohio resident for 5 or more consecutive years
• $60 - Ohio resident less than 5 consecutive years

ON OCTOBER 1, 2026, THE PRICE FOR A NEW APPLICANT THAT HAS NOT LIVED IN OHIO FOR FIVE CONSECUTIVE YEARS WILL INCREASE TO $80. RENEWALS THAT HAVE NOT LIVED IN OHIO FOR FIVE CONSECUTIVE YEARS WILL INCREASE TO $63.

VETERANS, ACTIVE-DUTY MILITARY, AND RETIRED SERVICE MEMBERS

Veterans, active-duty military, and retired service members in Ohio can obtain a CCW license without paying fees and, in many cases, bypassing the training requirement by showing proof of prior military firearms training.

• Fee Waiver: Eligible personnel can have the fee waived for new or renewed licenses by presenting a DD-214, active-duty military ID, or retired ID card (VA cards are not accepted).
• Training Waiver: Proof of military service often acts as a substitute for the mandatory 8-hour CCW training class.
• Eligibility: Must be an honorable discharge, retired, or active-duty member.

If you are an out of state resident but are stationed in Franklin County as Active-Duty Military you will need the above documentation including your military orders placing you in Franklin County.

CHANGE OF NAME AND ADDRESS

Address and name changes must be reported within thirty days by emailing fcsoccw@franklincountyohio.gov.

Include:

• Name
• CCW License Number (starts with 25-FRA)
• Old Address
• New Address

REPLACEMENT CCW CARDS

Replacement cards can be purchased for a non-refundable fee of $15, paid as EXACT cash, Cashier's check, or money order made payable to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

If you need a new card because yours was lost or stolen, you must provide a copy of a police report from your local law enforcement agency. The report must specifically state the “CCW Permit” is lost or stolen (cannot make general reference to “a wallet”).
