Captain Dan Johnson began his career with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in 2001. He has worked in multiple divisions including Corrections, Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Administration and Recruitment, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
While assigned to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Captain Johnson was the driving force in the creation of the Sheriff’s Office’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit, and he founded a multi-agency ICAC task force comprised of state, local and federal law enforcement partners. Under his leadership, the task force received numerous awards including national recognition for outstanding work from former United States Attorney General, Eric Holder.
Captain Johnson served with distinction as a task force officer with the United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and was responsible for conducting all federal and local criminal investigations with an international nexus. This included child exploitation, money laundering and complex criminal investigations targeting organizations responsible for the importation of dangerous and deadly amounts of illegal substances.
Captain Johnson has been qualified as an expert witness in both state and federal court and has a vast amount of experience providing courtroom testimony. He worked with local partners in the community in the creation and administration of a mental health preventative maintenance program for investigators assigned to his command, a project he is very passionate about. Captain Johnson believes in the identification of stakeholders and collaboration to accomplish goals in a unified fashion.
Captain Johnson has received numerous accolades throughout his career including Deputy and Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, has a bachelor’s degree from Ashland University and a master’s degree from the University of Virginia. Captain Johnson is also a proud graduate of the 285th session of the FBI National Academy.
